Conference Comedy

A conference was called by top management asking them to be present on a particular day morning to discuss issues regarding the slump in sales and how to improve the standing in the market. There were many branch heads, may be around 50 all men in number through out the geographical area of the country who assembled various issues. The CEO was to inaugurate the meeting but could not come in time due to the death of one of his relatives and it was headed by next in charge.

Among various things that were discussed, almost everyone agreed that it is due to the recessionary trend that has caused the downtrend. Various measures were discussed to improve the efficiency and also about cost cutting so that financials can be improved. During the meeting, it was also announced that CEO will be coming and would give his valedictory address in the evening apart from giving his own decisions that are likely to be made.

Since the number of issues concerning the downtrend was limited, the meeting was over much earlier than anticipated and the participants had to wait for the CEO to come. During that time, it was unanimously decided to talk about other general matters which are not a concern about the company's affairs. Everyone had a free discussion about several other aspects. One member wanted to know whether the so called conjugal pleasure is really a pleasure or it is only work. But when he asked the question, he said that he wanted to know the reasons for the answer given.[new-page]

Almost all the people answered, some of them in the affirmative that is it is only pleasure and other section felt that it is only work, perhaps because they did not enjoy it. But unfortunately no one could give reasoning for their answer. After hour long discussion, they could not come to a conclusion and that is the time the tea bearer arrived. One of them suggested that they can ask the tea bearer but many refused because of ego. But since time was running out and after all , the tea bearer is also a human being, they decided to ask him.

He said the answer was very simple and also he could tell them the reason. Curiously all the people turned towards him for the answer and the reasoning. The answer was it is only pleasure. When asked for the reason for his answer he said if it had not been only pleasure and it is only work, that would have been delegated to him or some other subordinate!

Tea bearer could give the correct answer to the dismay of the egoistic people. Not only that, he has taught them the management principle ‘delegation'

At that point of time the CEO arrived and again the meeting proceeded and the highlight of his address was that the people who are employees of the organization make it a point to understand that the work assigned to them should not be taken as a work but they should take pleasure in doing their job.
