  By Editor

For someone who wants to become an effective public speaker, acquiring good public speaking skills does not happen overnight. It involves constant practice and passion to speak and share what you know to other people. A good public speaker knows that effective public speaking skills is not all about being able talk simply well, it is also about being able to communicate to the audience in a way that they can learn from him/her and be moved or inspired by what s/he imparts to him.

Good public speaking skills rests on several key principles. A key principle to becoming a good public speaker is to develop your personal style. Many speeches turn out to be boring and nothing out of the ordinary because a lot of public speakers fail to realize the importance of developing his/her own style.

Whether your speech is entertaining, informative, inspirational or persuasive, what is important is that you should make your speech uniquely different in a way that your audience could not help but rave about it. For instance, you can make your speech unique and more personal by sharing anecdotes. You can also make your speech light and fun by adding humor to it.

And while it may be good to be given a standing ovation for a well delivered speech, wouldn’t it be better if your speech were remembered by the audience over time? And for a speaker like you, perhaps nothing can beat the feeling of being admired for your speaking prowess and looked forward to by people for your next speaking engagement.

The key here is simple. While public speaking is essentially about your audience, you do not just stop right there. You as a speaker know that you can go further. Make your audience so amazed that they find themselves responsible to tell other people about how they find your speech. And to do this, you have to come up with a speech that they can be inspired and learn from and is worthy of their time and effort to rave about and talk to other people. And before you know it, you may find that people may not be particularly ecstatic about your message but rather about you.

So step out of the confines of your comfort zone and consider trying out something new, unique and out of the ordinary. Use your creativity to come up with fresh and original ideas that can add more sense and spice to your speech at the same make your audience hungry for more of you. Remember that it’s never too risky to risk and try out something new and different in your speaking style. This, however, does not guarantee you that this can work. However the possibility of this to fail, this does not give you reason to be discouraged. You can always try again and think of new ways to improve your craft. More often than not, it is alright to have tried that not having tried.

Here are some ways to help you get started on developing your personal speaking style or improving your skill as well. For instance, you can do trial and error for a period of days. Within this given period, plan out ways to change or improve your speech. Focus on how you can impress your audience with its essence. Also, if you think that your speech is leaning towards the safe side, try to reverse and quirk it up. Also, think of ways that have not been commonly used or have not yet been done in the speaking arena. It is important to treat your speech the way you play your favorite game – you have to put your heart into it at the same have fun as well.

You have a point there... Public speaking is not just about the speaker or the topic but more importantly is how the speaker reaches out to the audience and let his or her speech be heard and be understood by the listening audience. And the most effective public speaker is the one that catches the audience's full attention and interest.
